Is Pilates just another fad?
It’s ninety-five years since Pilates rehabilitated his first patient. Generations of sports stars, ballet dancers and happy, strong people are a living testament that this is no fad!

Will Pilates help me get a flatter stomach?

I am pregnant. Can I continue to do Pilates?

Will Pilates help me become slimmer?
A toned Pilates trained body always looks slimmer. Combined with a sensible eating programme Pilates can dramatically reshape your body.
Who was Joseph Pilates?
Joseph Pilates was a health professional who, whilst working with injured soldiers in world war one developed a unique rehabilitation programme. Using the hospital bed they lay in Pilates invented ways to get the soldiers’ limbs moving again. This was a work in progress and as Pilates tested and developed his theories he made use of the existing framework of the bed continually adding springs and various attachments to the frame. These early pieces of equipment gradually evolved into the range of fine tuned apparatus that is used today. As word spread about his success sports people and dancers became devotees and continue to be amongst the many who benefit from his programme today.
Why Pilates and not the gym?
We are all for developing cardiac fitness and there are some great gyms out there with happy clients. However it just isn’t possible to get the same level of detailed supervision that is offered by a good Pilates studio. Some people are also a little overwhelmed by the sheer size, the loud music, complicated machines and crowds of sweaty people. Pilates provides a gentler but highly effective way of working out.
Do I have to book my sessions?
Yes. As you will be working closely with an instructor, be it in a private or group session, “drop in” visits are not possible. Please call ahead so we can find a time and session that suits you.
Can Pilates help with back pain?
In most most cases, yes. Your instructor will always modify your programme with any injuries in mind. At Balmain Bodies we will confer with your physiotherapist if neccessary to make sure the rehabilitation process is on track.
